NNHeS Heart Failure Prevalence Study has started

The Prevalence of Heart Failure in the Philippines is unknown.  The Philippine Heart Association in collaboration with the NNHeS has embarked into a survey that will define the Burden of Heart Failure at least in the National Capital Region.  Lead Author Dr. Imee Caole Ang designated at least 3 physicians who will do history taking and physical examinations of the randomly selected subjects (at least 40 years old) in Metro Manila.  Aside from History and physical examinations, a 2 Dimensional echocardiogram and doppler using a portable machines will be performed among the randomly selected individuals.  This is the first time this kind of study will be done in the philippines.  In addition,  Dr Tess Abola, a member of the steering committee of the NNHeS also included the ultrasound of the abdominal aorta.  This will help in defining the normal aortic diameters among the filipinos and measure the prevalence of abdominal aortic aneurysms in the Philippines.  Dr. Eugene Reyes, the supervising author for these 2 landmark studies will update us as soon as the results are available.  Dr. Joyce Jumangit and her group from the council on echocardiography will interpret the results of the studies.
