The Philippine Heart Association (PHA) condemns the atrocious attack on the medical convention of the Philippine College of Chest Physicians (PCCP) that killed eight and hurt 46 people, mostly physicians and medical representatives on the night of July 26, 2013 in Cagayan de Oro City.
The national PCCP convention gathered lung doctors and other health professionals who practice around the country. “We denounce this vicious and callous act of aggression on health professionals and their pharmaceutical allies, who value and save lives.
We, doctors and our pharmaceutical partners share and work on a common advocacy that calls for universal efforts toward the prevention of premature death, and this includes sudden death of innocent people who were victims of violence or terror campaign, “ said PHA President Dr. Eugene Reyes.Reyes added “there is no such thing as a collateral damage because regardless of the circumstances, any death is the permanent loss of a loved one which is severely heartbreaking.”The perpetrators have to be meted out penalty for the atrocious crime they had committed on precious human lives. They just deprived the victims’ loved ones of a father/mother, spouse, son/daughter, or a sibling.
