The PHA Council on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is happy to announce that it has been accepted as Associate Member of the Resuscitation Council of Asia (RCA), the Asian component organization of the prestigious International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR). This was confirmed through direct communication with RCA Chair Dr. Kazuo Okada and Honorary Secretary Prof. Lim Swee Han.
ILCOR is composed of the American Heart Association (AHA), the European Resuscitation Council (ERC), the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC), the Australian and New Zealand Committee on Resuscitation, the Resuscitation Councils of Southern Africa (RCSA), the Resuscitation Councils of Asia (RCA) and the Inter American Heart Foundation (IAHF).Its objectives include provision of a forum for liaison between principal resuscitation organisations worldwide, fostering of scientific research in areas of resuscitation, and dissemination of information on training and education in resuscitation. It is the accredited leader in establishing international guidelines on resuscitation, and produced the first International CPR Guidelines in 2000, and revised protocols in 2005.
Currently, the RCA is composed of the resuscitation bodies of Japan, Taiwan, Korea and Singapore. Efforts are under way to work for full membership in the society which will grant full recognition by the ILCOR, and puts it in level with the Resuscitation Councils of the American Heart Association and the European Society of Cardiology.
