In support of the celebration of National CPR Day on July 17, 2021 and to put the ongoing Philippine Heart Association (PHA)-led CPR-ReadyPh Campaign a notch higher, the Philippine Heart Association (PHA) North Luzon Chapter and Municipal Government of Bauang, La Union, jointly organized a Hands-only CPR/Automated External Defibrillator Training on July 13,2021 at the Brgy. Payocpoc Sur covered court beside Payocpoc Barangay Health Center.
The crucial lifesaving emergency response exercise gathered 95 constituents of Bauang, La Union, most of whom are Barangay Payocpoc Sur and municipal government frontliners. The big group was composed of barangay health care workers; sfaff of the Bauang Municipal Health Office, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine National Police. The rest were non-government organizations employees.
Initiated by Barangay Payocpoc Sur Council Head Virginia Ardina, this major project came into fruition because of the involvement and support of key people – the Office of La Union District 2 Rep. Sandra Eriguel, the PHA Chapter North Luzon Chapter President Dr. Leah Sanglay and the PHA Council on CPR.
The drive to organize the July 13 CPR event was fueled by Barangay Payocpoc Sur’s acquisition of its own AED.
The excitement over the project was like a fever that contaminated very important people who worked together to make the training a reality. They were -- Bauang Mayor Menchie De Guzman and Felipe Barbado Jr., barangay secretary who witnessed the event.
From the event’s planning to the execution stage, Dr. Sanglay was supported by her team – the members of the PHA NL, PCP Northwestern Luzon Chapter and La Union Medical Society (Drs. Stella Mabanag, Gerry Acosta, Nathaniel Cortez, Marcelyn Fusilero, Romeo Molano Jr. and Mario Pastorfide); as well officers of the Rotary and Inner Wheel Club of San Fernando, La Union.
